A Box Beam, or Faux Beam, is a non-structural decorative that has been mitered and glued together on three sides. Box Beams are used on ceiling applications to give personality, character, and depth to higher and larger spaces.

A typical faux ceiling beam is a hollow "U" shape that is mounted to a ceiling using small brackets. Other varieties of faux ceiling beam require small wooden mounting boxes to be attached to the wall before the beams themselves are attached.

Faux beams are wood-lookalike ceiling beams made from polyurethane, foam or another lightweight material so they attach to a ceiling without the need for reinforcements. The beams look like logs, railroad ties or milled wood. Homeowners typically add several beams that extend from wall to wall to give a room a rustic or Tuscan feel.
