The safest use of electrical tape is to cover minor cracks, cuts, and abrasions on electrical wires where the core insulation is still intact. Where the wire is exposed and that outer jacket is compromised, using electrical tape to cover it is not safe or recommended. That wire should be replaced and not repaired.

While electrical tape can be used for minor cord or wire repairs as a temporary solution, do not wrap it around exposed and bare wire.

Electrical tape is the simplest method of making electric wires safe. You also use tape on capped live electric wires as an extra precaution. Tapes can be used on loose live wires that do not fit the cap. You can simply use tape over the live wire to fit into the cap.

Pull the rest of the cord through the tangle. Usually, cords have knots because they loop back around themselves and the cord pulls tightly. If you run the loose end of the cord underneath the knot, the tangle will come undone. Repeat steps two to four until all of the knots are untangled.

Originally Answered: Why do you twist wires together? It makes a tight splice. If don't twist the conductors together, they will only good contact in one place, at the top of the wire nut, the rest of the conductors may may have loose contact. Because of that, there could be heat built up, which means resistance.
